Media Evangelism

Music, dancing clubs, and movies are among things that have hit record levels in Democratic Republic of Congo.  Children, young adults and even older people engage in these areas in one way or the other in their daily lives.  An internet search says: “Undoubtedly, Congolese have music in their blood; and it is one of the arts through which they’ve come to best express their outstanding creativity. The most striking fact is that most Congolese musicians are exclusively self-taught and exceptionally gifted.  One of Congo’s greatest contributions to contemporary African culture has been its music, particularly the orchestra music that developed in the 1960s”.

Youth evangelism

The community of Dungu is no exception. Media is one major tool that attracts the population’s mind, especially that of the youth.  Many people are giving much more time to music, movies, and dancing clubs, etc. We need to incorporate the sharing of the Gospel into these types of activities (adapted evangelism). Isaiah 5.20 states: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. The “Those” in the above verse I believe are many in the Dungu village, where many things are upside down.  This fact leads me to say definitely there is a great need of the Gospel; for only the Good News of Jesus can renew men and change their ways.  We are using media to present the Gospel in the following ways:

  • Crusades with Music

  • Movie Projection & Making

  • Music Recording & Training
