UNREST IN KENYA
Kenyan leader seeks divine help
Kenyans' praying President Mwai Kibaki has led fellow Kenyans in prayers to reflect on the numerous problems and tragedies that have befallen the country.
"We should seek God's forgiveness for the many instances that we have sinned by hating one another and even killing one another," he told a large crowd.
The National Council of Churches of Kenya declared Sunday, Jan. 6 as a National Day of Prayer. The Christians around the world were urged to join Christians in Kenya to pray for peace to return and for the safety of those in Kenya.
However, many Kenyans ignored the call and some worked as usual, even though a public holiday was declared; some religious leaders urged the government to tackle corruption.
Mr Kibaki was elected in December 2002 on promises to change Kenya after 40 years of one-party rule, but the BBC's Ruth Nesoba in Nairobi says trouble has stalked his administration. / BBC News-Africa
