The “Pearl of Africa” is a fertile and well-watered land with a temperate climate. Many perished under Amin’s dictatorship. The church suffered terrible persecution in the ‘70s. Many of its finest leaders were martyred. Famines, civil wars and tribal killings followed after Amin’s reign of terror. Tribalism still tends to divide the country. Uganda is now the first country in Africa to start lowering the rate of AIDS. The first lady of Uganda visited the U.S. in 2003, sharing Uganda’s successful approach to AIDS, which has included an emphasis on abstinence.
Micah and Grace Rwothumio are intensely involved in discipleship and outreach with Makerere Community Church, ministering to future leaders of Uganda on the campus of Makerere University in Kampala, the largest university in Uganda.
