The “Pearl of Africa” is a fertile and well-watered land with a temperate climate. Many perished under Amin’s dictatorship. The church suffered terrible persecution in the ‘70s. Many of its finest leaders were martyred. Famines, civil wars and tribal killings followed after Amin’s reign of terror. Tribalism still tends to divide the country. Uganda is now the first country in Africa to start lowering the rate of AIDS. The first lady of Uganda visited the U.S. in 2003, sharing Uganda’s successful approach to AIDS, which has included an emphasis on abstinence.

Micah and Grace Rwothumio are intensely involved in discipleship and outreach with Makerere Community Church, ministering to future leaders of Uganda on the campus of Makerere University in Kampala, the largest university in Uganda. Ministry in Growing at the University Church
Pastor Micah continues his ministry at the University Campus Church in Kampala.

He has started forming and training leaders that are very needed for the young congregation that continues to grow.

They continue to use the large tent as their "Church Building" while praying fervently for the funds needed to build a permanent structure that would be suitable for the needs of the growing church.
